Getting feedback
Get feedback on your business copy or content from me with 1:1 coaching!
For fiction, hire an editor or writing coach (I've won feedback through competitions and paid for editing support on submission packages - Lauren James is v good!), or join a programme that offers regular peer feedback (WriteClub is amazing!!).
Writing fiction
For plotting novels I've found the book 'Save The Cat Writes A Novel' totally invaluable. It's given my fiction the structure and sense I didn't know it needed, is helpful for sense-checking an idea before you dive in, and it's also transformed my ability to write synopses from nonexistent to far less painful.
Getting into journalism
Try a short course like the ones from The Freelance Sessions to give you the basics.
Organising your ideas
I use Evernote for pretty much everything (fiction, blog writing, goal setting, copy etc)and think my brain would probably fall out without it, except for very early novel outlining which I still do with index cards and a pen!
Staying accountable
Get yourself some writer buddies! I met mine through one of the incredible WriteClub programmes (HIGHLY recommend), and now we have regular online meet ups and swap work for feedback. It's the best! Another tip is to set goals and have things to aim for - writing competitions are good for this.
Sorting your workspace
Good ergonomics are essential for everyone who spends a lot of time sat at a screen typing. I recommend: a good, supportive chair, an ergonomic mouse, and boosting your laptop up to eye level on a stand (using a separate keyboard at desk level).
Building an online presence
Keeping things simple works best for me! I use Squarespace for my website, Mailchimp for my email newsletters, and Canva for basic graphic design. My website design is adapted from a template by 23&9 Creative.
